El Dorado Western Railway Foundation

The Diamond & Caldor Shay now 101 years old. Visit us at the 2008 El Dorado County Fair June 12 - 15 and join the celebration.

We need the support of each and everyone of you to help us complete the restoration of this locomotive and so it can steam again. Please ask us, what can I do to help.

Diamond & Caldor Shay #4

The only surviving locomotive of the Diamond & Caldor Railway No. 4 Shay locomotive is the focal point of El Dorado Western Railway Foundation. We have invested thousands of man hours in its restoration. Many more hours and dollars are be needed to finish this project. Welcome!

Our website updates are finally moving along, and more content is being added. We have had a number of inquiries concerning our "old" website, those files are still on our server, and a link is now provided for easy access to those pages.

For current news regarding EDWRF and events at the museum, please see Steven Karoly's excellent blog by clicking here, or by following the "blog" link above.

This website will be focusing on providing information that might be considered "history," versus the daily news. Our focus will be on our restoration projects, history and information on the Diamond amd Caldor Railway and some information on other logging railroads in El Dorado County. For other historical interests you may have, we suggest the El Dorado County Historical Museum, to visit their website, click here.

Our Mission

It is the intent of the Foundation, in association with the El Dorado County Historical Museum and El Dorado County, to create a quality logging railroad facility that is historically accurate, promotes education about El Dorado County logging, and provides logging railroad reenactment to the mutual satisfaction and benefit of the community.
