Diamond & Caldor Railway Shay #4

Shay #4 is the crown jewel of the El Dorado Western Railway Foundation's collection.  She is the last remaining steam locomotive of the Diamond & Caldor, and a priceless example of living history in El Dorado County.  She was built in 1907 for the Diamond & Caldor by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio.  She is a 37 ton, two-truck, class B Shay and was used on the mainline of the D&C, then later as a yard switcher in Diamond Springs.  Once restored to factory condition, Shay #4 will be used on excursion trains and as an educational tool to ensure that future generations will know of the rich railroad history of El Dorado County.  For more information on Shay locomotives, click here.
